Fall Topics

I’ve been working hard to get my fall planning done this week. Here are my series topics.

CHAOS (Middle School)

September: “Mythbusters” … things that WON’T get you into heaven
All the things that go along with being a Christian but aren’t worth anything without a relationship with Jesus… being nice, going to church, helping people, etc.

October:  “How to Be A …”   based on the youtube videos on how to be a ninja, etc. We’ll film our own with students.
Now that we’ve busted through the myths and found out the basis of our faith (Jesus Christ), we’ll look at how that faith needs to be lived out in our lives.

November: “Are You Insane?!!”  A look at some of the crazy things God called people to do throughout the bible.

JUSTIFIED (High School)

September/October: Stripped Clean, Down to Nothing But the Cross using this resource

November: “I Am Second” … a few weeks of watching/discussing videos from www.iamsecond.com , a few weeks of guest speakers from within the church and then a week of student testimonies.

In December both groups will go through a series called “Extras” … a look at some of the lesser known people in the Christmas story and why they’re important.

Mid-summer checkup

Believe it or not, the summer is half done! Before we know it the new school year will be here.

I had some goals this summer and I thought this would be a good time to check in on how I’m doing.

1. Spend more time with students. I’m knocking this one out of the park this summer. I meet with a group of students for bible study and hang out time at McDonalds every Monday (McMondays) and I have breakfast/hang out with the high school girls group once a week. I’m also finding other random excuses to hang with students instead of sitting at my desk. It’ll be a bummer when they have to go back to school and I’m back to spending more time in the office.

2. Spend less time at my computer. I’m doing pretty well with this one too. Thus the low blog activity.

3. Take more time for myself. Not doing so hot on this one. I have a stack of books I was planning on reading, but haven’t. Wanted to get more sleep … haven’t. And I’m backsliding on my day off discipline.  I realized this weekend that I haven’t taken a full day off since my vacation at the beginning of the month. Not good!

So all in all I’m doing pretty well.  Just need to work harder at taking time for myself.

Did you have goals for the summer? How is it going so far?

Enjoying summer

Sorry for the blog silence. Been taking a lot more time away from my computer screen lately. I must admit, it feels really good. I suppose I’ll get back into the habit one of these days… maybe

VICTORY!!

victory_pose

Sorry for the blog silence last week!!  I took the week off from work and spent very little time in front of my computer. In fact, it was the first time since I went into ministry that I managed to relax and not think about work. It popped into my mind a few times but I took Patti’s advice and jotted thoughts down in a notebook and then put them out of my mind until today.   As an admitted work-a-holic, this is a huge victory for me!

I spent time with my family, got to see friends who were in town for the 4th, slept in every day, drank a lot of coffee and took a daytrip to Ithaca to show Tim around my old hangouts. Speaking of Tim, he proposed Wednesday night!!!!!!  (I said yes).    My best friend from high school got engaged last week as well so we had LOTS to celebrate while she was in town.

Today I’m back in the office. I’m going to catch up with some students this afternoon. I do always miss them when I go off the grid for more than a day or two. It’ll be nice to see them and hear how the summer is going.

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend!
